Drawing on the genres of science fiction, documentary and surrealism, Film Takes on the City explores the power of film to imagine and reshape urban environments. The films shown use the city as an experimental and speculative space to create a new reality or perspective on the city. The films blur the distinctions between ‘real’ and ‘imagined’ as well as between past, present and future.
The film programme includes Blight by John Smith (1994-96), Memo Mori (2009) and The Futurist (2010) both by Emily Richardson and Patrick Keiller’s Stonebridge Park (1981). This will be followed by a Q&A with artist Emily Richardson.
